Help Me Help Haiti

by Julia on January 14, 2010 · 34 comments

This post will stay at the top of the page all day today. Scroll down for the usual blog updates as I’ll be posting them below this post.

When the devastating news hit the other day, I found it eerily difficult to continue life as normal. I attempted to, of course I spent time that day with my kids praying for the victims and their families, but at some point in the day our life did have to go on. That just didn’t settle well with me and it’s been on my heart since then. What can we do to help? Is there anything? Yes!

Pray. Please lift these people up to the Lord, my prayer has been for comfort. I’ve been praying that God would envelop them with His peace that surpasses all understanding. Families have been ripped apart and children are experiencing the highest intensity of pain here on earth, the loss of a parent or both. I cannot fathom the pain.

Give. I’d encourage you in some way to give. Even if it’s $1.00 – please give. It will add up quickly, even if all we had was $1.00 per person to give. On an average day I have 4000 readers stop by The Frugal Find, if each of you gave $1.00 what a difference that would make!

Here are three ways I would encourage you to give:

::https://www.compassion.com/contribution/giving/disasterrelief

::http://www.numanainc.com/donate.cfm

::http://www.ncm.org/news/press/catastrophic_earthquake_hits_haiti/

Blog.  Use your blog to inspire and motivate others to take action and help! Through the wide-spread social network we’ve all worked so hard to create, we can reach millions of people with this message.  I’d love to hear what you’re doing to help Haiti.

Here is how we can work together -

For every person who blogs OR comments on this post about what you specifically did to help those in Haiti and leaves your link/comment below today 1/15/10, my husband and I  will personally donate $0.25 to the Caribbean Disaster Relief Fund through the Church of the Nazarene.  Not much right?  Remember every bit counts and if we all give a little we can accomplish something huge.  Initially the funds will be coming directly from our $30/week Eating from the Pantry Budget – surely we can cut back even more right?  We are a body working together, we need each other and Haiti needs us.  Let’s work together to help Haiti.

I texted to donate to the Red Cross, we’ll also be helping out at our church with relief efforts.
I’ve been praying non-stop and encouraging others to help in any way they can. We can’t stand by and let others suffer without our help. We have so much- especially with all this coupon clipping we’ve done, right?? :)
James 1:27
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
Now is a time to put our faith into action for those who cannot help themselves. :)
Thanks so much for posting and helping. ♥

http://www.just1dollar4haiti.org/ is the website specifically for earthquake relief for the nonprofit Haiti Cheri Havest Life Ministries (www.haiticheri.org). They are an mission organization that partners with Haitian people to improve their quality of life (education, food, medical, etc). Any money donated now goes to earthquake relief. You can check out the website for a link to up-to-date info and correspondence from Haitian friends about the earthquake and effects, and you can make tax-deductible contributions securely online. You are right that every little bit helps- most Haitian people live on less per day than we can scrape out of the ashtray for a Coke in the drive-thru. Having done mission work in Haiti, I have seen first-hand the desolation of everyday life forthe Haitian people. This epic disaster is truly heartbreaking, and the long-term consequences are beyond what I can even fathom. Thanks for posting, and thanks for your generosity.

We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed–I can’t imagine the losses of the Haitian people.

SwagGrabber posted a deal about a $40 subscription for 40 issues of All You the other day, just wanted to share. Only $1 per issue but then $10 of that $40 goes to Haitian Relief, which makes it even less and helps a good cause.

Gotta comment & say, “You Go, Girl!” :) My church has a sister church in Haiti and we’ve been getting daily updates on the devastation & relief efforts. It hits close to home & I feel blessed to be able to give, knowing how much it’s needed.
