Update: Safeway Coupon Policy, no more RRs.

It’s a sad sad day…but one I expected would come soon.  Safeways has updated their Coupon Policy…here is the new and ammended sentence in regards to Register Rewards…

9. Safeway will accept valid Catalina manufacturer coupon that is issued to a customer by another retailer only if such coupon is for a specific item.

So since RRs do not list a specific product they are intended to be used for (instead the are for a $ off $ amount) we can no longer use them at Safeway.

Ya unfortunately so. The strange thing is most of managers I spoke to were happy about the added traffic it brought to their stores.

I know me too – but I had my hopes up, after talking to corporate a few times and getting the ok as long as the manager accepted them – then this. Booo.

That makes my stomach hurt. I just got loads of RR rewards yesterday with the intention of using them I Safeway. I rarely shop at Walgreens.

I’m sorry Amy :( Worst case…you could return the items to Walgreens. Otherwise, maybe explain the situation to your local Safeway manager and see what they say.

Amy, you can do what I do and just use the register rewards from this week toward whatever is “free after RR’s” next week! And if its all stuff you don’t need, donate it to charity. Not only are you helping out your community but you can also write off the donation on your taxes!

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it for the last couple of hours and decided that that is probably what I’ll have to do. I hope there are some sales in the next couple of weeks on things we really need! Also, we just found out we’re pregnant, so I guess I could start stockpiling baby products…

I am so bummed about this! I wonder why they chose to not take the OYNO catalinas. Wouldn’t they be happy about making more money and gaining more business?

I had a feeling too this wasn’t going to last. I went yesterday to Safeway and had a free coupon for some fruit that was printed online and they said they don’t take those anymore either–no free internet coupons. And they studied all my coupons, even the catalina ones that came from safeway! The guy behind me got mad and went to the next register because they were taking so long pouring over my coupons! I think they’re being a lot more careful now.
