There is an article in today’s 6/7 Contra Costa Times paper about The Frugal Find, if like me you don’t get the weekly paper you can read the article here.
Let me start by saying, I’m a little disappointed but I should also say I’ve never had an article in the paper… I expected the article to focus on what we’re doing today here on The Frugal Find. I had hoped it would encourage readers to start to explore the idea of couponing for their family – instead the writer focused more on our personal lives. My quotes, the numbers, and details weren’t completely accurate – but I guess that’s what you can expect anytime you interview over the phone.
It’s just pains me to have the blog/business side be the forefront of the article when that really isn’t the reason we do what we do at all. We feel like any income we bring in because of TFF is simply a blessing and it’s the way God has chosen to provide for our family, I’d be doing this either way.
If you’d like to read our story, in full here are a few links for you. I realized that I had written them out of order a bit, just recently going back to the beginning our our story, so if you read the links in order below you should be on the right track.
Part 1: Bringing you some hope today…

Hi Julia, I know the article is not exactly what you would have liked but I think it’s pretty good. And atleast they made it clear you are not promoting “Extreme Couponing”. I hope lots of readers check out your blog from it & you get tons of new couponers! Congrats!

As a journalist myself, I can can analyze and criticize the article professionally, which could have been better. Looks like the reporter had to cram as much info as possible into a short story, and don’t forget that editors could have altered the original version. Still, at least they got many important points in and you should find an increase in hits on TFF. And whether an interview is conducted on the phone or in person, the facts MUST be correct, so let the reporter know where corrections should be made. BTDT myself, keeps us on our toes…

Congratulations on the article! I do think that it was able to deliver the message that couponing helped you get out of your financial troubles. However, since the article was quite short, it wasn’t able to expound so much on how you were able to do it. I think though that people who read the article will be encouraged to check out your blog and see how you were able to do it. Thanks for all you do and more power to TFF!

Have you thought about being on Extreme Couponing?

Sorry, no offense but I think Extreme “Hoarding” Couponing is the opposite of what The Frugal Find is teaching people.

You have blessed many and I hope that God continues to bless your family and this site.

I thought it was a nice write up Julia! Keep up the good work…I have several “frugal” sites that I have liked through FB, but find myself on yours more and more compared to the others…especially since I am in the East Bay and the data is very relevent geographically. I work FT and commute to SF, so I certainly appreciate the points in the right directions for good deals!

I was able to read the article on the Contra Costa Times website, if anyone doesn’t get the weekly paper. Just put in “the frugal find” in the search box.

I know they left out a lot of information (because that’s what journalists do when they have a limited amount of space). However, I felt the article was a decent introduction to who you are and what your blog is about. My hope is that those who read the article will visit your blog and find out the rest of the story (which includes your sincere desire to help others).
