The Frugal Find in the June All You Magazine!

Did you see the little snippet in the top left corner on Page 14 in the June All You Magazine?  Funny thing is I didn’t even know it was going to be there, a few readers emailed to tell me they saw The Frugal Find mentioned.  I met one of the editors for the All You Magazine at the Blissdom Conference my husband and I attended in Nashville.  We set up a phone interview, spoke for a while and that was that. Pretty exciting to see my name in one of my favorite magazines!

I wanted to elaborate on the quote a bit though…it says:

Save on fun – Don’t just renew your zoo membership when it expires, instead when you’re contacted about it ask for a free 6 month extension.  The zoo might say yes to keep your business.

Twice  in a row now we’ve been contacted by the Oakland Zoo when our membership had expired.  Both times we were offered an 18 month membership at the regular 1 year rate.  I suggest doing this with ANY and ALL memberships or businesses you frequent.  It dawned on me even more so back when the Oakland Zoo offered a 50% discount on a 1 year membership – businesses NEED our business, but even more than that they’re in it to make a profit.  The fact that they could so easily offer 50% off to the over 3,000 families that purchased goes to show there is wiggle room in the fees businesses charge for services.

In this economy we almost expect a deal anywhere we go and businesses are well aware of that.  So don’t hesitate to ask if the price they are charging you is the best they can do.  Sometimes there isn’t flexibility, but often times there is.  Just ask.
