So you only spend 30$ a week on groceries?
How many people are in your family?
Does that include if you guys go out to eat?
Typically we spend $45 a week, but we’re trying to “Live off the Land” which means to eat from out pantry since it’s so full! So I cut back to $30 a week just for the month of January. Here is a link where you can read more about our January challenge…

I had to read the ad several times to make sure that I was reading it correctly. The safeway ad regarding the buy 2 and get 3 free for the oatmeal. What a steal. It was so awesome when I read the -$14.97 on my receipt!
I have also been wondering about the weekly budget. Does it include meat? Because there is no way my family could live without meat. LOL We spend about $50-60 a week on meat. Three adults and 2 growing teenage boys!
We aren’t buying much meat during January, but thats only because we couldn’t fit anymore into our deep freezer! My best tip for buying meat is to shop the clearance meats at Safeway. They are marked anywhere from 30-50% off and are typically a day away from the sell by or freeze by date.
This week I did buy some ground beef at Safeway because the Value packs were on sale for $1.49 a pound – well guess what…they had a value pack in the clearance area so I paid $0.75 a pound! I got 5 pounds of ground beef for $3.75, that is exactly how we stock up on meat. I hope that helps!
I went to target yesterday, and they would not let me use the extra $1.00 coupon on the free Special K Fruit Crisps. The computer beeped it out and said “cannot use coupon on free item”. So i ended up getting three boxes for $1.78, and not $0.78. Still a great deal.
Does your $30/month include fresh produce like fruits and vegetables. Also I find that most of the foods that are on sale or cheaper are processed or foods that are not that great for you. All of these items in this shopping trip are cheap but none of them are good for you. An example is, oatmeal is good for you but the salt and sugar content are way higher than regular oatmeal. I’m all for frugal and I think it’s awesome that you have this blog, just wondering if there are frugal finds for less processed foods.
Alison, it’s actually $30/wk during January and regularly $45/wk. I think this post will help answer most of your questions, the key for us is to stock up on the pastas, sauces, cereals, oatmeals, etc so that we CAN afford the fresh produce and meats.

I was wondering when the sale on the Oatmeal ends? Did it end Tuesday night? I know the new Ad start on Wednesday each week. I don’t want to make an unnecessary shopping trip:-)
