Watch the video to see how much I saved!

I had a great time tonight!  I took 6 local readers grocery shopping, they followed along and I was able to help them pick out the deals and show them how you can maximize your savings by planning ahead, preparing your coupons, and knowing the sales! I took a video of what I bought (I should have taken a video in store! Maybe next time!)  If you’re interested in joining me on a Shop-Along, add The Frugal Find as a friend on Facebook.  I make my announcements over there.

To see all the printable coupons I used, check out this week’s Safeway deals.  Also, here is a link with the details of the newest Safeway coupon booklet – I LOVE THIS BOOKLET!

Why do we coupon?
Why do we spend the extra time it takes to save the money that we save?

There are many reasons and for many of us the reasons vary greatly.  I coupon out of necessity at times, but I also coupon because it’s a very valuable tool I’ve found to enable me to GIVE more.  Haiti needs our help.  We are an incredibly blessed Nation and people.  The fact that all these items were sitting in my toiletry cupboard is a real testament to how blessed we truly are.

Here is a list of the items that are needed in Haiti right now, and as I said in the video my church is working with the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and we have a great opportunity to store these supplies for free and ship them at a great rate thanks to Cargo Express.   If you are local to me (Bay Area, CA) and you have items you’d like to donate, you can click on the Contact button at the top of my website under the About Me section.  I’d love to help you give.

Also, my husband and I have extended the time we’re allowingcomments and links to be posted to the Help Me Help Haiti post, remember for everycomment or link we’re donating $0.25 to the relief efforts.  Thank you for partnering with us to Help Haiti.

A peek into our pantry Vlog…

by Julia on January 11, 2010
Miscellaneous

I run the risk of everyone seeing all the unhealthy snacks we’ve stocked up on, so please be kind!   By stocking up when the sales are good, it’s one of the key ways we’re able to live on $45 a week for groceries.  You might think it’s strange to have so many boxes of cereal, but without that stockpile…even just once, having to pay full price for a box of cereal would make a huge dent in our weekly budget.   So instead, we plan way ahead to avoid paying full price for anything ever again.  The majority of our $45 a week goes towards fresh produce, fruits, milk, yogurt, meat, etc.  Also, just a note – this is just our dry pantry – our deep freezer is overflowing with frozen veggies and meat.  We also have a closet for toiletries and a separate closet/cabinet for household goods.  Maybe I’ll get those on video sometime too!

Check out my 99 Cents Only shopping trips here, here, and here to see how affordable it is to stock up on fresh fruit & veggies!  If you haven’t shopped at the 99 Cents Only store yet you’re really missing out.  Here are just a few pictures I’ve taken of shopping trips there in the past.  Every item in the pictures below were purchased exclusively at the 99 Cents Store.

Also, I often forget to go during the cold weather, but in the spring and summer you’ll find me every week at the local Farmer’s Market.  Once I asked one of the vendors what was the best way to get a good deal, he gave me a very helpful tip…he said to shop near the closing time – most vendors will be drastically marking down their produce and often sell them by the bag at a deep discount.  Just another tip!

Feedback Please: Is this video really choppy making me look like a total goofball for everyone, or am I the only privileged one?

I hope you enjoy the video, being behind the camera isn’t my favorite place to be but I think it’s a great way for you to see first hand the deals.  Plus nothing could be as embarrassing as this video.  Personally, I find it hard to sort through lists of deals and coupons, so I always appreciate when I have a video to watch.  I hope it’s helpful for you too!

Here are the Loreal coupons I talked about in the video…

Several Loreal printable coupons here.
$3/1 Loreal Coupons in the 1/3 Sunday Inserts

A huge thanks to my son Cody for shooting the video – I’ve got a techy on my hands already!

This is just a quick little video I shot the other day, much to Mrs Frugal’s surprise and joy.

So that’s the video and that’s what I bought.  I will say though, that I did NOT enjoy shopping at the mall.  Only a freebie could get me in those doors again and it better be a good one!  I’d much rather shop the same stores online and earn cash back!

Hopefuly the recipients of these gifts won’t see this post until after Christmas!  Here is a question for you…how do you feel giving deeply discounted gifts?  Would it bother you to receive a “freebie” gift?

Note: I inadvertantly made my husband sound like an impatient man, but he is SO far from that.  To this day he will still sit and listen to my silly Frugal Finds.   He has been a constant vessel of support on this journey.  He is home with all 4 kids today while I attend Save up 2009!  I love you Jeremy!

This was a lot of fun, even though I look totally nervous I’m just beating a 3 day fever so that’s what I’m putting the blame on.  :)   I’m really tired but also VERY excited to be leaving today to attend Save Up 2009.  There were 40 bloggers selected nationwide to attend Save Up and I was one of them!  We all  have a chance to get media coverage, so keep your fingers crossed for The Frugal Find!  I’ll be blogging from the event, so check back tomorrow, especially on Facebook for all the “happenings”.

Also, don’t forget to stock up on Wii games at $5.00 each!

To find the deals I talk about in this video, check out Target’s Weekly Deals HERE and Safeway’s Weekly Deals HERE.  For other coupon match-ups that may not be mentioned, feel free to leave acomment and either I or one of my wonderful readers will help you out!

Here are the pictures so you can see a little better some of the items I purchased this week:
