it was a good day. I was in Safeway and had just picked up two boxes of the Oatmeal Squares when a nice lady tapped me on the shoulder, told me she had 5 $1 coupons and that if I picked up 3 more boxes it would be free! Of course, I took her advice and she gave me your website address. I believe she is a friend of yours and if she is reading this, I want to thank you again and let you know that I gave the extra three boxes of cereal to three people I know so you have touched 4 families today! Thank you!

That’s it – I’m done procrastinating today…I’m off to Vons (Safeway)!!! Real quick, I thought the Marie’s was part of the produce Buy 5 promotion… how did you only get 3 at 99 cents?

Julia March 10, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Jess, it looks like all of the Buy $5 Save $5 are interchangeable.

I went today and got 4 boxes quaker squares, 4 granola bites, 1 pack granola bars, 1 salad dressing and 10 boxes fruit snacks. I paid $6.50 and got a $3.50 catalina to use next time. But, I noticed $5 wasn’t taken off, so after I go back and get it refunded then I only spent $1.50!! My savings (going by the $6.50) was 93% :) Thanks Julia

HI
Where did you get the peelie and blinkie coupons for the Kellogg’s ceral?
Thanks

Reply

Julia March 10, 2010 at 5:07 pm

The peelie coupons were on the boxes (I did see some today too, but these were from previous boxes that I had purchased). The blinkie was right in front of the cereal, but that may vary by store as well.

I did not have a Marie’s coupon so I went on their website. You can sign up to receive coupons and recipes. After signing up, I received a $1 off in my email within 2 minutes :)

I went tonight–it was fun! Lots of Kellogg’s boxes had peelies, I was surprised because our Safeway never seems to have them.

I went today and bought 5 boxes of Fruit Loops/Apple Jacks and 4 boxes of BC fruit snacks, and did not get any catalina’s! I was expecting a catalina for each of those deals. Is there anything I can do about it now? Or is it a lost cause?

Julia March 10, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Nancy, I wrote a post about that a while back…I hope it helps.

Someone told me that the 20 item limit for the $5 off 5 is per day – does anyone know if that’s true or if it’s a per household special.

LOVING Vons right now! I went earlier tonight and did two transactions –
#1 was (6) Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks, (4) Oatmeal Squares Cereal, (5) Maries Salad dressings, (5) Nut Clusters, (1) Barilla Pasta and 1lb of asparagus – total OOP was .52!! AND I got a $3.50 CAT!!
#2 was (3) Fruit Loops and (2) Apple Jacks – used coupons and my $3.50 CAT from transaction #1 – total OOP was .30!! AND I got a $4.00 CAT!! So in total, it was a money maker trip of $3.12 and I walked out of Vons with 6 bags of groceries! My best trip ever :)
Thanks so much Julia for all the tips!

I just got home from Safeway and am looking over my recipe. I 15 plus items from the Mix and Match sale but I see only two $5.00 off from the recipe…there should be 3 if it’s Mix and Match for everything? I had all 5 cereals, 6 fruit snacks (no catalina printed, already called the company) one granola cluster and 4 Marie’s dressings. Was the problem that the salad dressing doesn’t mix and match with the cereal, fruit snacks and granola snack? So mad I didn’t grab one more of something…got in a big hurry

If I was correct, is there any way to get the $5.00 back now?

It could be Sara, I would go back and show them the receipt, count the items out and show the the savings didn’t come off. Shouldn’t be a problem…

whoops… meant receipt…spell check :)

(4) Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks – $1 ea
Use (2) $.50/2 printable coupon – coupons.com
$.50/2 eCoupons – shortcuts.com
$.50/2 eCoupon – cellfire.com
Total OOP: $2.00
Got back a $2.50 Catalina Coupon
Final Price: $.50 Profit!

How?
You Use only Two coupon $.50/2 that means SAVE $1/4?
So Spend $3.

and you only got $1 per Box when you Buy 5 otherwise $2 each than how paid $1 for 4
(4) Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks – $1 ea?

Panchu –

I used (2) $.50/2 paper coupons and (2) $.50/2 eCoupons = $2 off

The mix and match sale is good for all participating products, you don’t have to buy 5 of each item, just 5 total participating products. So I bought a total of 20 participating products, by mixing and matching.

Thanx for reply
Got it

One more thing how you use (2) $.50/2 paper coupons and (2) $.50/2 eCoupons ? for 4 Box b/c $.50 coupon is for 2 box so you can use only 2 coupon $.50/2 ($1)

I should have looked at ur blog before going yesterday (Wednesday) as I saw the catalina paper stating the promo kellogs deal til the 10th but thought of the 5/$5 & when at store just let the kids pick from the tags as we already had to be mindful of getting the ones that were in the same price group for the 5/$5 and I didn’t want to have to think of wich Kellogs would go with both deals that we’d like but u did it and that’s just what I needed to see so next time I’ll have to look here 1st:) I just discovered this blog and think it is my new favorite!

Do the ecoupons equal a dollar also, since all coupons equal a dollar at Safeway right now?

Reply

Julia March 11, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Lisa, in CA they do not double, but yes in other states the deals would be even better!

Reply

Julia March 11, 2010 at 2:07 pm

eCoupons do not double anywhere.

Reply

Kristi March 11, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Echoing Panchu’s question, my Safeway refuses to let me use more than one coupon per item here in Livermore, CA.

Reply

Julia March 11, 2010 at 2:11 pm

You’re only giving the cashier one coupon per item, the eCoupons come off automatically when you slide/type in your club card info.

Just for an update, I finally was able to talk to a manager, the same one who rang me up, after 3 calls to Safeway. He told me the salad dressing is not part of the promotion and wasn’t so nice informing me that I should have read the signs properly. Needless to say I am a little dissapointed in how they handled it :(

how did you all get the NV granola clusters for free?

is it 5 for $5?

i don’t understand- $1.50 -$1 coupon = $0.50

I bought 10 items and was expecting $10 to come off the bill, but only $5 came off in the promo. I bought:
4 Betty Crocker fruit snacks (2 gushers and 2 fruit roll ups)
3 boxes Quaker Oat Squares cereal
3 bottles of Marie’s salad dressing

I see one poster said that the Marie’s salad dressing didn’t count towards the $5 for 5 limit…maybe that’s why the other $5 didn’t come off?
All in all, pre-discount the total was over $32, and I paid $6.47 out of pocket and got the catalina, so it really was a good deal, I was just expecting to get it all for free. Not bad though!

I finally got to go alone to Safeway today and I found another great deal in the freezer aisle! I got the Michael Angelos BOGO coupons, which I printed to a PDF. I didn’t have the coupons with me, so will have to go back. The Michael Angelo’s entrees aren’t on sale, but they have the $10 tags in front of them, so the game is on! The price was 3.59 each. I figure that if I get 8, the pre-coupon total would be $28.72, then 14.36 will come off with the BOGO coupons (four of them). Then, I would pay 14.36 and get a $10 reward back, so they would be 4.36 for 8 or .54c each! I’m going back this weekend, and though I’d share the idea!

So I figured it out about the salad dressing!!!! One of my $5/5 didn’t come off too and I think it was cause I got a salad dressing.

Apparently they have 2 different sales going on. One $5/5 is like for produce stuff and the other is the one with the cereal and snacks. Really stupid on their part since the sign only says Mix and Match $5 off. I did get my $5 back once I went back in and asked for it. But really, Safeway. Get your stuff together before you decide to have these sales!
