Man buys 100 razors at Costco…

Jenny, a TFF reader, sent me an article that got me thinking about those people in our lives who think couponing is crazy and/or a waste of time & money.   This man stocked up on Razors at Costco (100) to be exact, in an attempt to save money in the long run.  Remember this post about things I’d NEVER buy at Costco?  The above picture was taken just last week at my local Costco, a 14+1 pack for $44.99.  At that price this man paid just shy of $300 for something we get FREE almost every week!

Don’t you feel sorry for him?  Who is going to break the news to him?

Do you have people in your life like this?  You know, the ones that are set in the way they shop and 100% positive they’re getting the best deal out there – like this man above.

Nearly every time I am behind someone in line at the grocery store I want to tell them how much money they could be saving by using coupons on the items they have in their cart. Or worse yet the people who by BOGO items but only get 1! Mostly I just hold my tongure though.

I often have to stop myself – cause I do the same thing! I often find myself watching what people put into their basket and if I am in the mood and I happen to have a coupon for an item, I will offer it to them. Some people are a little caught off guard!

My brother and SIL ONLY buy in bulk or shop at walmart because they think its cheaper. They think Im nuts for shopping at costly stores like Safeway and King Soopers. Just last week they bought a 6 pack bulk case of salad dressing for over $20! I got 6 for free at Safeway not long ago.

It’s not necessarily brand loyalty so much as what works best. The article mentions that he bought mach3 blades, which currently, you don’t find coupons for them, just the 5 blade fusion. Having used the new fusion proglide, I actually prefer my mach3 as the proglide creates too much irritation. (I also picked up a Schick Hydro 5, but just the size of the blades is intimidating and seems like it would be difficult to use in some places.)
Towards the end of the article it mentions a guy who is likely going to buy some sensor Excel blades. Which again, it’s been awhile since I’ve used it, but I liked that shave as well rather than the 5 blade razors. I know someone who has a stash of Trac 2 blades. (Which first came out in the 70s). Many people I know prefer their old razor with fewer blades rather than all the hyped up over priced 5 bladed razors. So while blades can be expensive, if someone likes a certain shave I can sympathize with buying them rather than trying to find the next free one.) That said the cheapest way to get many blades, like mach3, is off ebay, you just have to be careful who you buy from. Obviously don’t buy from somewhere out of asia as you are then likely to be getting imitation blades.

I can attest to the fact that the mach3 is less expensive than the new proglide. What is strange though is that the mach3 disposables are cheaper than the mach3 blade refills. Go figure. They are drastically cheaper at Costco than Wal-Mart … at least for the disposables.
