Two sections today — Grocery & Boredom Busters for Children! Here are the grocery deals:
I promised to report back on the Lemondrop Melon from last week’s trip & it tasted amazing! It tasted like a lemondrop & honey. If you see it, try it! My best bargain today is the big quart of Heavy Cream! We will make homemade ice cream for July 4th, and it’ll cost less (and taste better) than store-bought. With the fresh rosemary, tie the ends together, and it makes a basting brush for grilling meats. I’ve also seen just the rosemary stems (strip the leaves) used for kabobs, and it’s supposed to impart flavor. The 28 oz crushed tomatoes for $1 is a stock-up price, and it is so versatile to keep in the pantry for sauce, chili, stew. I thought the Aquafresh Iso-Active Pump was a good deal, since I think these run around $5 in CVS.
“Mom, I’m bored!” – Are you hearing this now that summer’s here? It’s such a challenge to keep kids unplugged, and actively engaged while on a budget! Well, today I found two Craft Items at my Clayton Rd. store:
1. Tulip Tie Dye Kit — Comes with 3 colors. Simply add water to the 3 bottles & shake. Enough to make 8 shirts. (photo shows front & back).
2. Marcella K Adhesive Chipboard, 24 ct. — Thick and sturdy for imaginative creating.
3. Activity Idea — Use the Heavy Cream (above) and a clean jar. Kids can make their own Homemade Butter by shaking the heavy cream in a jar. Try googling for instructions. Let them spread their butter onto freshly-grilled corn-on-the-cob (Sumiko’s recipe?).

I’m so sad the last couple times I have gone to the 99cents store they haven’t had any of their produce out… I must be going too early. I have been mixing that peach punch with water to mke it kind of like propel since that juice is super sweet in my taste. Great finds! I always like to see what you find there!

stephanie w., I know what you mean about shopping too early in the day! I like to go between 11-1. I guess the delivery truck has to arrive, and the stockers need to get going rotating the produce, and that whole process takes time. Thx for the watering-down tip for the juice, too!

The Tie Dye Kits were located in the T-shirt/Socks Aisle, in case you’re wondering.
Heavy Cream —
In addition to making Homemade Ice Cream & Homemade Butter in a Jar …
Make Homemade Whipped Cream! Here’s how I did it:
1) Works best when everything is super-cold. So put your bowl and mixing beaters into the ‘fridge about an hour. Get them real cold.
2) When you’re ready to whip, pour Heavy Cream into chilled bowl. Add a tsp of powdered sugar, if desired.
3) I used my handheld mixer on High Speed to whip the cream to desired thickness.
4) Enjoy! We spooned the cream over fresh strawberries. We also made ice cream sundaes & used homemade whipped cream. So much better than store-bought aerosal. Try it!

My husband had been asking me to purchase whipping cream so he could make homemade ice cream and I told him he had to wait until I had time to go to the 99cent store, since I know they always have the best deal on it. He ended up going himself on Tuesday and got the quart size, which they almost NEVER have (usaully just the pints), and I was so proud of him! Hey, it’s the small things in life….

Barbie, “Yay! Good Job!” for your husband!
I hope he picked-up more than one!
I was just at Target Pleasant Hill. If anyone wants an Ice Cream Maker, the Hamilton Beach model is now 75%-off (pay $8.98). I also used my insert coupons to score 4 FREE bottles of Heinz Vinegar ($1 – $1/1 Heinz Vinegar = $0) at Target. Will be using the vinegar + my moneymaker Vo5 conditioner from CVS to make my own laundry softener Frugal Find-style.

I price-checked 1 quart of Heavy Cream @ Target … $5.49 for one!
