Have you used Walgreens RRs at Fred Meyer or Raley’s?

I about spit my coffee out (and embarrassingly commented on this post) that I might pee my pants with excitement over this news.  Frugal Living NW reports that we can use Walgreens RRs to pay for our groceries at Fred Meyer and sure enough it’s sort of in the Fred Meyer coupon policy.

We accept all valid, current manufacturer’s coupons. We do not accept expired coupons or manufacturer’s coupons that state they are valid only at another listed retailer (i.e., “Good only at Safeway”). Exception:

  • Most Catalina coupons (the coupons that print out for you at check stands) are manufacturer’s coupons and are stated as such. Catalina coupons that are printed with another retailer’s name may be accepted at Fred Meyer. Note: This only applies to Catalina coupons and not to other manufacturer’s coupons that are designated as valid for use at a specified retailer.

I’m going to test this no doubt about it, but I was wondering if any of you, TFF readers have tested this already.  Also if you remember Safeway accepted them for a very short period of time during a change in their coupon policy .  As I mentioned in the comments section,  they will *technically* scan anywhere since they ARE manufacturer’s coupons.   I’m curious if Raley’s is openly welcoming them, now that would good news.

Please note: I am NOT suggesting you use them anywhere but Walgreens unless of course the store’s coupon policy allows for it.

Would love to hear your feedback…

  1. I’m not sure about the policy…but, they work at Raley’s too! :)

    • So interestingly enough, they will *technically* scan anywhere since they ARE manufacturer’s coupons. If you remember for a minute, Safeway was accepting them too. They scanned with no problems. I’m curious if Raley’s is openly welcoming them, now that would good news…

  2. Yes, I do remember that…I have asked at my Raley’s and they always say “It is says manufacture” so “Yes!” :)

  3. I use my rr’s at Safeway all the time I work for Walgreens it helps me save money at both places

  4. What about Raley’s – do they accept Walgreens RRs?

  5. At Safeway Encina in Walnut Creek, the Manager himself told me that they accept Walgreens RRs which are for SPECIFIC products. (So, for instance, a $2-off Crest is accepted … however, the $2-off On Your Next Shopping Order kind is NOT accepted.) Interestingly, the Walgreens is right next door to this Safeway.

    Hmmmm, interesting

  7. In keeping with this idea, they should work at Walmart, too. Their coupon policy States they take all stores catalina coupons, too. :)

Exciting news but has anyone noticed the change in walgreens ads lately? I cant say O like it
and it appears their RRs are decreasing and the product focus seems to be on the store brands
Hence fewer coupons on name brand items. Maybe its the season I dont know.

    • I hate to be the one bearing bad news… but I think it is b/c they are transitioning to the full-scale roll out of what used to be in test markets only-The infamous reward card program. With my experience (yes I was one of the guinea pigs in the Portland test market), I thought it was dead on arrival–Now I guess they wanna bring it back from the dead. I had them on the phone in Jan for a separate issue, and they told me they will be launching it in May this year.

I worked for Raley’s for years (as a bookkeeper) and i’ve never seen anyone use them. Personally i wouldn’t think so only because it’s not a specific item the coupon is for. Their policy says they don’t take coupons for items they do not carry, but this RR isn’t for a specific item. I no longer work for them but i know that my store would never take them…but they’re kind of sticklers LOL

  10. i use them at fred meyer all the time. in fact this is the only reason i have started shopping at wags again…makes it hassel free as i dont have to plan transactions to use up RR and and get fillers, etc…

  11. My RR do say Manufacturer coupon on the top but at the bottom they all say “REDEEMABLE ONLY AT WALGREENS”

  12. I have tested it at Meijer…it does work there!!! I have been using RRs at meijer for a long time now…I just thought everyone else already knew that trick…lol

  13. In Arizona, Fry’s (Kroger affiliate) will accept them. It’s vague in their policy, but they scan and are accepted. Managers at two different stores have confirmed it for me. Some cashiers don’t know, but when that happens, I ask them to just try it. Since they scan, then they don’t have a problem with it.

It takes so much pressure off the Walgreens game and “gamble” as I call it . . . will there be another deal to roll my RR or will I overspend, getting something that’s not a great deal, or have to find a filler? Love this!!

  14. I use my RR at Fred Meyer all if the time! Never had a problem! I’m in Hillsboro OR.

  15. I’ve been using them for months at freds. Went to walgreens on thanksgiving, got about $200 worth of products, some of which I was paid to take out of the store. Every item had a RR. I took them to freds the next day for the sock sale and used them all there.

  16. wow, Holly!!

  17. Gina is right, they do say “good only at Walgreens” (or something to that effect.) I don’t have one handy, but I think it’s on the bottom, so you don’t notice it right away. Grocery stores are losing a TON of $$ because people are slipping these things by.
