UPDATE: I stopped in today (a couple of weeks after I posted this deal originally) and found a great stock of Skippy Peanut Butter here in Bend, OR still priced at $0.99 each. The best part is they’re dated October 2012!
A TFF reader commented on our Facebook wall saying she found Skippy Peanut Butter, 18oz at her local Grocery Outlet (in Grass Valley if I remember right) for just $0.99. I just HAD to stop in and see if I could find this deal too, sure enough I did! For my local readers I found them at the Pleasant Hill store – for the rest of you, I think this merits a trip to your local Grocery Outlet store!
The Skippy Creamy expiresd on 10/11 and the Skippy Crunchy expires on 9/24 – pretty close, but still worth buying a few especially with Back to School in full swing. Plus it doesn’t technically expire, it just says “Best if used by…”
So how do you determine what “Best if used by” means?

Wish I had one of those!

is this a sale with a date (like from 08/14/11 to 08/21/11)?

That was me, Julia, I hadn’t even thought to check the dates, lol… we go through a lot of peanut butter, so I’m sure we’ll use it up quick…keep in mind that you could do some holiday baking (cookies!) and freeze the results, if you’re worried about the best by dates…
Hey Dot I’m in Auburn and love the Grocery outlet here too. Don’t need peanut butter though. We made a ton of our own
Hey, Cindy, good to ‘read’ you, lol…I’ve been to the Auburn store too, sometimes our two different stores carry different items, love them all!
To me, “best if used by” means give it a good ole fashion whiff and if tastes funny, pass.
Normally grocery outlet prices are until they can’t get anymore. But that is what it seems like in Auburn, CA. I have found good prices on certain things and had them order me cases. They are really good about that here.

I’d say it is likely a quality/flavor issue more than one of safety
but I often call the number on the product when I have a question.
Not trying to be negative but since so many stores have Peanut Butter on sale it does not make since to buy this since it will expire so soon. You can spend 50 cents more and have it last for 2 years with know worries. If you shop at these stores you must always check the dates. I do everywhere even safeway and its against the law to sale after the date.
they don’t accept coupons out here and the one nearest to me is flithy!!!
Did you happen to check the Antioch store?
There is a guide by Real Simple magazine that gives the best by date vs. actual use by date. Many things can go over a year or so after the best by date. That said peanut butter doesn’t last in my house, my Dh eats it all the time.
that would be lovely except the grocery outlet out here in oakland, ca DOES NOT accept coupons
No Grocery Outlets do. This deal doesn’t need coupons.
our’s didn’t have it- they had Peter Pan at $1.99
Same here.
Same here.
I know $0.99 is a great deal; but …. this version of their peanut butter has HYDROGENATED oils in it. This is a TRANS FAT and you shouldn’t feed anything with hydrogenated oils to your kids, it’s bad for their wastelinesand bad for their hearts.
Sorry, I don’t mean to be preachy, I just care about the impact on health.
The G.O. in Tigard has this deal as well.
that was me with the first notice on Skippy at $.99, now I have to go back and get some more, lol!
Thanks Dot – SUCH a score!!
I can’t wait for our store to open this week!
I’m so busy today, getting ready for a short trip to the coast for our anniversary in the RV, but I can’t pass this one up, will have to make time for G.O., lol!
Oh Cam, you’re going to LOVE it!!
Have fun Dot!
My favorite store <3
Checked our store when originally posted, I will drop in to check again…hoping it is also 99cents
I love Grocery Outlet, the prices are amazing!!!
I was there today! I didn’t have my coupons and needed a few items plus it was on my way home. It was meant to be
My favorite price point is $.99 (as you know), so I checked-out the Concord, CA Grocery Outlet on Willow Pass Rd & found the chunky and the smooth. In addition, they had $.99 Eggo Waffles, too. {For breakfasts on- the-go, we love peanut butter spread on waffles!}
The Willow Pass Grocery Outlet is much nicer than the Pleasant Hill store. And, as a bonus, it is across the street from the 99 Cents Only Store (albeit, a slightly disheveled one) so it saves time and gas if you’re shopping the Willow Pass corridor. Also nearby is 99 Ranch, which tends to have good prices on produce. I also frequent Half-Price Books near Todos Santos Plaza to sell my used books & periodicals (they paid me $18 for my bagful yesterday!)
just remember that the holidays are coming and peanut butter can be used in many ways – I even have a crock-pot recipe for Thai Chicken that uses peanut butter in the sauce and it’s FAB! In the meantime, use up your soon-to-expire stuff and save the longer best-by dated stuff for later in the year. My hubby eats PB sandwiches all the time, so we go through a jar a week. FYI – I shop ALL the sales and have never seen Skippy (or other brand names) at $.99, so this is a bargain!
G.O. does not accept coupons, their prices are pretty low as is. For those of you in the S. SF area, the G.O. on Hickey is NOT on the Pacifica side of Hickey, it’s in the Sth.SF area, in a strip mall across from Costco (at El Camino?): and it hasn’t opened yet, as we found out last week, but is due to open soon!
