Easy Oven Baked Fries Recipe

From Our Pantry

I know this won’t be the most shocking and exciting recipe, but it was sure tasty and very cheap.  I’ve been making strides to cook more from scratch, use natural ingredients when possible, and serve tasty dinners my family will love.  Mr. Frugal and I were talking about the “natural and organic” debate that is out there and while there is no argument – it’s much better for you.  The fact is if your budget won’t allow for it, you have to make do and make changes where you can.  That’s what we’re doing.  Cooking from scratch is the best way to go about this – using fresh fruits and vegetables (even if they’re not certified organic is a good first step).  This week we ditched the frozen seasoned Ore-Ida potatoes with our grilled burgers in place of homemade oven-baked fries.

I’ve been hunting down deals at Whole Foods and have been very surprised to find that they in many cases they don’t deserve the name given to them “Whole Paycheck” in other cases, take for example the 2 women that checked out in front of my with a cart (mostly full) of groceries both over $200.  That’s gotta make a dent in your paycheck.

Anyways, onto the very simple recipe…

I used my Pampered Chef Apple Wedger & Corer to quickly slice my potatoes, I’m sure there are other methods out there but this worked very well.

Ingredients:

  • 6 potatoes
  • 6 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 3 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 teaspoon onion powder
Directions:
Mix the olive oil and the seasonings in a bowl then pour  it over the potatoes into a sealed ziploc bag.  Shake well, then lay flat onto a baking sheet.  Bake at 450 degrees for 45 minutes, that’s it!
We had PLENTY left over and I plan to use them in breakfast burritos that I’m going to make and freeze.  I’m not sure exactly which seasoning it was (maybe the paprika?) but something gave them a distinct breakfast flavor and so the burrito idea was born.   I’m sure you could come up with various seasoning ideas – a good one would be rosemary and thyme!

Brilliant idea to use the apple corer! I have one and it never occurred to me! I’ll try it next time!

You’ve got to put a little muscle behind it, but it was super quick I thought.

sounds good, I laughed a little at the ingredient list and instructions because it doesn’t say to do anything to the potatoes – I know, you talked about it – but someone not paying attention might put the whole potato into the bag! hahaha….as to extras, I thought GARLIC! We rarely fry anything anymore, oven baked is the way to go.
