I had no idea this program existed! This is the perfect example of why I love my readers! Wendy emailed me today to tell me about this program. After a little bit of research I found the following information:
There are 2 airlines participating, United Airlines and Alaskan Airlines (but Alaskan is limited to a few states)
United Airlines Mileage Program:
Go HERE to enroll.
It’s easy and free to enroll! Every time your eligible grocery purchases reach $250 with your Safeway Club Card, Dominick’s Fresh Values Card, Vons Club Card, Pavilions Value Plus Card, or Genuardis Club Card, you’ll earn 125 Mileage Plus bonus miles.
Also there is currently a special offer for Dominick’s shoppers:
Earn 500 miles for every four prescriptions filled at Dominick’s
Dates: October 1, 2007 through December 31, 2009
Details: Filling your prescriptions at any Dominick’s Pharmacy will now help you get closer to free* award travel on United. For every four prescriptions you fill with your Fresh Values Card, you will earn 500 miles. No limit!
Alaska Airlines Mileage Program:
Go HERE to enroll.
Earning miles with Safeway just got a whole lot easier. Simply shop at Safeway locations* in Alaska, Washington, Idaho, or Montana and you can earn 125 Mileage Plan Miles for every $250 you spend. And if you live in Washington you can earn miles when you shop at Safeway.com. That routine trip to the grocery store can quickly rack up miles toward your next vacation.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing:)
When you sign up with Safeway, be sure to ask about prior purchases. The lady said she would credit me back for the last year of purchases.
