‘Stay’cation
Defined by Wikipedia…
Common activities of a staycation include use of the backyard pool, visits to local parks and museums, and attendance at local festivals. Some staycationers also like to follow a set of rules, such as setting a start and end date, planning ahead, and avoiding routine, with the goal of creating the feel of a traditional vacation.
Last year The Frugal Find family had a fabulous Staycation, it was a packed week and we’re looking forward to it again this summer. You can go here to see some of the events/outings we did, but we’re looking for new and fresh ideas this year. Have you done a Staycation before? Please share your tips, ideas, ways to make it fun, etc. I’d love to hear from you!

My husband won’t be able to get a whole week off of work this month and next month he is going to England for a month and a half (lucky him). So we are taking our weekends and trying to fit in some fun activities. But if I was able to plan a staycation here is what I would do:
First I would actually stay the night in a hotel a few hours away, just one night to kick off the vacation. There are some great areas around us that are just a little too far to really make a day trip, but would be prefect to have two days there.
Then I would make the rule no cooking for dinner. There are ways to make this inexpensive, restaurants.com, groupon.com, entertainment book, take out, pizza, even getting burgers from the dollar menu and coming home to throw together an quick salad and baked potatoes or somthing quick and easy.
Around my area (Columbus OH) we have the BES T festivals all summer long, jazz and rib festival, a Native American Pow-Wow, wine festival, greek festival, etc. Most are really inexpensive to get into and it is fun just walking and looking at everything even if you don’t buy anything.
What great ideas! Here are some of the things we might do this summer…
1. Aquarium of the Bay, SF
2. Exploratorium
3. CA Academy of Sciences
4. Golf N Games, Antioch
5. Lawrence Hall of Science
6. Contra Loma
7. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
8. Ardenwood Historic Farm
9. Bay Area Discovery Museum
10. City water park
11. free movie during the day at RAVE
12. Lindsay Wildlife Museum
Some of these can be expensive but last year we purchased a membership to a natural history museum that allows to get into other museums like the Academy of Sciences and Exploratorium for free. We also purchased season passes to Six Flags for 19.99 each during my husbands company picnic so we saved a bundle there.
