This week I received a copy of the adorable National Bestseller book titled Room on the Broom. The timing was ideal since I’ve been looking for Halloween themed books at our local library lately to incorporate into my son’s home school routine.
This book is adorable! The story is about a witch who is riding through the night on her broomstick. Along the way she meets several friends (including a frog, a bird, a cat and more) who ask to ride along.
She shares her broom with these friends who end up creatively defending her from a dragon in the end! It’s a really great story about sharing with others and helping your friends.
I really love the illustrations in this book and the story is written in rhyme, which I love as well! I find it really helps my four year old stay interested to have colorful illustrations and a catchy rhyming story.
The book and the accompanying doll are really great, but for me the best part is the smart phone app of the same title. My son loved it! It is creative and educational – teaching patterns, writing practice and more. And it has a really pleasant background music, which I find is often overlooked with children’s apps.
This great app is available in the iTunes store for only $4.99! Here are a couple comments from the author and illustrator of this great book about the app:
Julia Donaldson: “‘When Magic Light first mentioned to me the idea of producing a game offering children a different way to engage with the Room on the Broom characters, I was confident that they would produce another beautiful high-quality product to sit alongside their films and merchandise. The games have been especially designed to echo traditional children’s games of observation and memory and are a lovely addition to the world of Room on the Broom.” She adds, “ My own favorites are feeding fries to the dragon and creating constellations of stars!”
Axel Scheffler: “I’m delighted to see how my original artwork has been used to create such beautifully produced games that give children the opportunity to explore the world of Room on the Broom in a whole new way.”
