Living healthy and frugal = plant a garden and barter with those fortunate enough to have fruit trees.

I think the easiest way to be frugal and healthy is to stick to the whole foods. The processed ones cost more anyways. Shop the perimeter of the store and you’re good to go!

My way of staying healthy AND frugal is to drink water instead of juice or soda. Buying one of those Brita type filter machines costs less than drinking bottled water also.

I like to make my own spaghetti sauce…kind of! I stock up on my favorite sauce when it’s on sale, add 1-2 cans each of tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, a little tomato paste, herbs, and seasoned ground turkey(also on sale). I make it once, then freeze the rest in quart sized freezer bags. This way when I don’t want to make dinner, I have a healthy and quick meal just needing to defrost. It’s as easy as a box of mac n cheese, except much healthier and tastier.

I combine by investing a years supply of berries when they are on sale during the summer. We do a lot of smoothies for snack and dessert and prefer the fresh berries. It gets expensive in the winter. Summer sales here I come.

I think the best way to live frugal and healthful is to make as much as possible from scratch. One example of what I mean…. Canned refried beans contain fat and cost a fair amount. If you just make those refried beans yourself from dried beans you can save yourself a lot of money, calories and fat.

The best way to be frugal and healthy is to exercise…it’s FREE to take a walk with your kids, and it helps keep the weight off and create family memories!

I am already a reader & subscriber to the email newsletter. My tip for healthy living (for my son anyway) is always having healthy snacks ready to go–string cheese, cut up veggies, etc. always in his “drawer” in the fridge. That way he can snack in his drawer and doesn’t always have to ask us if it’s okay:) As far as frugal living is concerned, I’ve shopped so much that I know that the really good deals generally come around every so often, and I stock up on coupons & shop those deals when they come!

join a food co-op.. bountiful baskets are in 4 states and they offer a fruit and veggie basket for 16 dollars filled with delicious and super healthy foods. Dirt cheap compared to the stores, even with sales!
