I try to replicate dishes I like eating at restaurants at home, but with more healthy ingredients (no msg and the like). To find those recipes, I turn to the good old Internet, hehe.

My husband and I grow a vegetable garden in the summer and I use the vegetables to make this delicious marinara sauce and then freeze small portions to use through out the year. This year I also plan to make tomato soup and can it.

My frugalist and healthiest tip would have to be thise: I usually do deals on snacks for the kids (nabisco crackers, granola bars etc) then I with my savings I’m able to stock up on fresh fruits and veggies from Sunflower Market or Sprouts. So I always add a fresh fruit/veggie to their/our snacks along with something that I got a good deal on. With the money that I save on great deals I’m able to stock up on things like Dog Food, toilet paper, toothpaste and then more of our money is able to go to things like lean meats, shrimp, fish and seafood (some of our favorites but can be pricey).

I ♥ Safeway!! Our family tries to eat healthy but purchasing our fruits and veggies before any snacks or candy and using those fruits and veggies for snacks instead of junk food! I love your blog!!! Thank you!!

I began coupon shopping for only five months, there is a Safeway just near our house, I no doubt benefit a lot from your website. I am inspired by your tips, trips and stockpiles. Thanks very much!

I buy in bulk on sale and look at price per unit on organic and healthy food. I bought a 5 gallon container of coconut oil on sale and saved us $60 from buying one gallon at a time!

I use catalinas to pay for fresh produce! We garden and I home can- which works if the produce is free. Luckily we have a few fruit trees and it is totally worth it.

Starting a garden. It’s pretty much free and healthy food.

Purchasing fresh produce at a farmer’s market — it’s cheaper and you can cook fresh food with it.

We have great local store called Newflower and they have great prices on fruits, veggies and meats. I go there just for was is a really great deal each week. I also LOVE Randalls (Safeway). Just got some great deals there today. I love your blog, Julia. Thanks for all your great money saving tips. I subscribe to google reader. :)

I think you can avoid the middle of the store whenever possible and shop the perimeter. Buy fruit in season and on sale…or frozen. Make your own smoothies at home. Grow your own veggies.

I have cut out most non healthy snacks. No more cheetos or chip & dip. Better for me & I’m not spending the money on snacks. Thanks!

One frugal/healthy tip I can share is to keep a “soup bag” in your freezer. I have a gallon-size ziploc bag where I dump in any leftover veggies after dinner, etc. Sometimes I will also throw in chopped up leftover chicken, etc- then when I am ready to make a quick soup I have lots of ingredients all ready to go!

I try not to buy food that have to be fried. When it is time to eat, my family and I try to avoid going out. We try to cook our food at home but much more healthier.

I find exercises I can do at home without needing any equipment so I don’t have the excuse of not being able to pay for a gym membership in order to stay fit!
